Hello!
Welcome to my Weebly site! This website is a project compiled for my Capstone Portfolio class as a part of my Master's in Student Affairs Counseling program at Bridgewater State University. This portfolio was completed in December of 2014 and showcases my skills and competencies from that time period. For more current information, please visit my LinkedIn profile, which is linked at the top of this page.
My name is Janine Bradley and I am expected to graduate from Bridgewater State University’s Student Affairs Counseling M.Ed. program in December, 2014. Some of the best work I have completed as a part of my program is showcased throughout this portfolio. Many of the courses I took at Bridgewater State are based on the CACREP (Counsel for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) competencies, and each one of these competencies is highlighted in detail within the portfolio. I have grown so much throughout my time at BSU and I hope that the information that I have included in this portfolio can attest to the skills that I have sharpened and competencies that I have developed.
I am passionate about helping students and am excited that I will soon be working in the field professionally. When I graduate I hope to work within Academic Advising, which is an area that I have grown to love over the last few years. I have been lucky enough to get the opportunity to serve as an Academic Counselor in the Academic Achievement Center for my Graduate Assistantship, and it has taught me so much about advising. I have worked with first year students and helped them transition to the university, given them guidance on major choices, assisted in their understanding of BSU policies, supported them in deciphering their degree requirements, and helped them to register for classes. Through my internship experience at Massachusetts Bay Community College I have also gotten firsthand experience in advising. I welcomed and assisted students in registering for classes as they came for orientation during the summer, and am currently working with new students as they begin their journey at MassBay. Both of these experiences have given me ample exposure to different types of advising models and practices and it has been a great learning opportunity to have exposure to 2-year and 4-year institutions. My coursework and my experiences at BSU have taught me so much about higher education and student affairs and have given me the skill set that I can utilize in my first professional positions and in the future.
